Community Allotment

We supported the community to develop a set of community allotment spaces locally

When? 2022-2023
Partners: We Are Fish. Green Influencers.

Around 2022, local group We Are Fish took over a series of plots on the Carr Lane Allotment site adjacent to the North Cleethorpes area. In total 8 plots were leased in two blocks.

We Are Fish led with a group of volunteers to improve the plots and to engage the community and local residents to get hands-on with the allotment sites.

Big Local North Cleethorpes supported We Are Fish through a connection to VANEL to establish the group as a Green Influencers group. This increased their approach to working with local children but also unlocked ways to reach more funding. The funding was able to pay for materials for the site, including ultimately a new shed for storage on the site.

As well as the youth connection with Green Influencers, the community allotements hosted ‘community feast’ events and had numerous opportunities for local ‘green’ volunteering. Many local residents took the opportunity to visit the allotments and get involved.

The community allotments only lasted a few years before stopping around 2024. But dozens of local people and children were involved whilst they were active,
