Foodbank Support

To support local residents through the cost-of-living crisis, Big Local donated to a local food larder to reach residents in our area

When? late 2022 – 2024

Following Covid came a new crisis – dealing with the cost of living. And this affected residents across the North Cleethorpes area as much as anywhere else. Big Local North Cleethorpes was provided a small amount of additional funding from the national programme to support residents, so we wanted to reach households through a food band programme.

Big Local North Cleethorpes tried to work closely with our local church at St Aidans as they were interested in establishing a new food bank/food larder. In the end too many logistical issues got in the way, so Big Local North Cleethorpes made the decision to more direct support an existing food larder.

The Cleethorpes & St Francis food larder was distributing food and supplies weekly from Old Cleethorpes Church Hall. Whilst slightly outside of our direct area of benefit we worked with the team at the larder and realised that a significant percentage of their visiting beneficiaries were coming from our North Cleethorpes area. So Big Local were keen to support.

An initial investment of £1000 late in 2022 was donated to the food larder and this was occasionally topped up with extra donations up to 2024. It’s estimated that perhaps 50 families from the North Cleethorpes area directly have been supported by the food larder over those years.
