Green Grow Boxes was a project delivered by Capacity Buildings Ltd and funded through the National Lottery Community Fund in 2020 via the specific Coronavirus Community Support Fund which was reacting to the Covid crisis.
Big Local North Cleethorpes supported the programme by helping with some local delivery to households in North Cleethorpes and by a small funding investment to ensure even more households could receive support.
The purpose of the project was to help people in North East Lincolnshire who are at high risk from COVID-19 and support communities most likely to face increased challenges as a direct result of COVID-19.
The Green Grow Box project involved purchasing and distributing fruit and vegetable green boxes for people living in areas of multiple disadvantages in Grimsby and Cleethorpes with no access to a garden or allotment. It was also about increasing opportunities to get people involved with thinking about green routes to resilience.
There was a lot of work in partnership with local allotments producing products and with volunteers helping to deliver boxes of produce to families.
There was also a lot of advice on growing produce (including supplying seeds) and people were encouraged to share their experiences too as part of supporting them to overcome isolation during the post covid period.
The Green Grow Box programme helped Big Local North Cleethorpes to connect to local families and households in a tangible way during covid recovery by either handing out boxes of produce or encouraging people to think green and think about growing their own fruit and veg,
Local resident and committee member Alan Johnson was very active supporting the programme across North Cleethorpes to share his knowledge and to help reach households who needed help.
Big Local North Cleethorpes also invested to produce a few videos for CleeTV to promote the scheme as well as the healthy living messages.
