One of several Green Influencers groups in the area, the Sidney Park Sorters kept Sidney Park tidy and got families involved

There have been a range of ‘green’ initiatives within Sidney Park – including litter picking and a Sidney Park Watch, as well as all the efforts from the other users and groups in the Park to keep it clean and tidy.
But as the VANEL Green Influencers groups were getting underway we found a willing audience of local young people and their families who were ready to form a group to meet in Sidney Park. One particular local parent was instrumental in bringing people together and the Sidney Sorters Green Influencers Group was born.
The group met weekly to start with litter picking and tidying and weeding, but then evolved to doing their own planting and tending for their own space.
The group also organised Family Feast sessions for the community; organised fun days in both Sidney Park and Sussex Rec and generally gave local families and young people a connection to and pride in Sidney Park.
Eventually the group faded away as an organised venture after around 18months of activity, but local families are now much more involved in the Park and there is now a lot of focus ongoing around the “Pitstop in the Park” cafe which provides a connection for local residents.
