Big Local funded a mobile CCTV to help react to local Policing priorities to help protect the community
When: late 2015 investment with camera live 2016 and maintained and live for five years up to 2020 approx
Partners: NEL Safer and Stronger Partnership Group. Humberside Police.
Due to the spontaneous nature of Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB), especially amongst youths, traditional stationary methods of CCTV aren’t always effective as a form of deterrence and prevention.
As part our theme of reducing crime and creating safe neighbourhoods, Big Local North Cleethorpes funded the purchase costs in 2016 for a mobile security camera in order to address crime and anti-social behaviour priorities identified from the community.
The mini-dome, mobile camera was arranged in conjunction with Police and the Safer and Stronger Partnership and was established mainly for the use of the North Cleethorpes area. Footage is streamed to the Police via 3G. The camera was expected to have a working life of five years. Deployment of the camera was in response to identified Policing priorities.
Big Local invested in the capital costs for the camera, with North East Lincolnshire Council and the Police covering maintenance and support of the camera for the five year period and contributing a significant amount of match funding to our investment.
Since 2021 and the end of the life of the deployment of the camera, of course CCTV technology has evolved rapidly. These days a wide network of static and deployable CCTV’s cover Grimsby and Cleethorpes and are all part of a coordinated mesh of connected video coverage to support the Police and Council to tackle crime and ASB.
This early investment by Big Local North Cleethorpes was very much an attempt to work in partnership with those who keep the community safe and to be able to react to the crime related issues raised by the community.
