For a second year Big Local supported an Urban Arts Festival to involve North Cleethorpes
When? Autumn 2023
Partners: Lynsey Powles – artist. Pitstop in the Park.
In 2022, Big Local North Cleethorpes sponsored a North Cleethorpes Fringe Arts event to take place as part of the Reclaim Urban Arts Festival. In 2023 this was repeated and again some sponsorship was given to help some arts activities from the 2023 event to take place in and around North Cleethorpes.
There was a different approach in 2023 to 2022 which included:
– A new piece of artwork on the side of the Pitstop in the Park in Sidney Park
– Commissioning 3 pieces of unique artwork from local artists depicting local scenes to be displayed around the area
– Funding some art workshops for local kids.
Once again, getting involved with an already scheduled art event – the Reclaim Festival – made it easier for Big Local North Cleethorpes to get some art activities to happen in the North Cleethorpes area to engage with local residents. In the case of the 2023 event, not all of the work took place during the festival weekends itself. In fact, due to a range of circumstances some of the art workshops and art work were still taking place later during 2024.
Pitstop in the Park art
Artist Lyns Powles painted a new mural on the walls of the Pitstop in the Park. This incorporated the new logo for the Pitstop. Pitstop is a cafe and warmspace in the park which engages with local park users – especially younger people, and Big Local wanted to support their efforts.

The artwork being painted at the Pitstop features in a video funded by Big Local North Cleethorpes about our art projects and released in 2024.

Commissioned Artwork
Three local artists were commissioned to produce three new pieces of artwork about North Cleethorpes. They feature in more depth on our page about commissioned artwork here.

Art Workshops with Young People
We wanted to engage young people more with art, so Lyns Powles was commissioned to deliver a series of workshops to local young people. The sessions took place in the Red Shed at 82 Grimsby Road over a number of weeks. The young people did a range of art including spray painting, space scenes and making crafts.
