For two years, Big Local supported a local artist who runs a Cleethorpes Urban Arts Festival to expand the event into North Cleethorpes to help involve our community<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

When? 2022 and 2023
Partners: Lynsey Powles. Reclaim Urban Arts Festival. Local venues including the Library, Punchbowl pub and Pitstop in the Park<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lynsey Powles (Lyns) is a Grimsby based urban artist. In 2022 Lyns was arranging her latest Reclaim Urban Arts Festival which had been running for perhaps six years and was normally organised based around Cleethorpes Leisure Centre. Her Festival would bring together dozens of urban artists from around the UK to live paint and demonstrate their art as part of a Festival weekend which would also engage families and the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2022 Big Local North Cleethorpes worked with Lyns to add a “North Cleethorpes Fringe” aspect to her Festival. Big Local invested funds to help sustain the Festival itself and help it go ahead, but with a big focus on doing arts activities in North Cleethorpes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2022<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The 2022 North Cleethorpes part of the Festival included:
– An art exhibition at Cleethorpes Library for a month, including a launch event to promote the festival.
– Live painting by artists at the Punchbowl pub on North Promenade
– Live painting of a wall in the garden of Cleethorpes Library
– a day of events in the garden at Cleethorpes Library including music, book readings and more
– CYC The Hangout also funded some craft workshops for young people at Cleethorpes Leisure Centre over the weekend
– a series of art workshops for local young people<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall the weekend was a great success and as well as engaging the public it left a legacy of a couple of pieces of urban arts on the walls around North Cleethorpes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2023<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Once again, in 2023, Big Local North Cleethorpes part funded the Urban Arts Festival that Lyns was arranging to allow more North Cleethorpes focused activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2023 was slightly different and the Big Local funding helped:
– commission three unique pieces of local art
– fund a new mural on the wall of Pitstop in the Park in Sidney Park
– funded a series of art workshops for local young people
– once again, CYC The Hangout funded some craft activities for young people at the Leisure Centre during the weekend<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Festival was once again a success with the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A video was also funded by Big Local and prepared by Hammond House Productions. This showcased some of the 2023 art activities and also the new Art Trail being prepared by Big Local.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
