Big Local has worked on ways to support the businesses along North Promenade including a small guide to the North Prom
When? various initiatives since 2012 up to2024
North Promenade sits within the North Cleethorpes area but has long been neglected more than the rest of the more popular touristy promenade along Cleethorpes.
So Big Local North Cleethorpes has always tried to work with the businesses along North Promenade on projects that will bring residents and tourists venturing along that part of the prom and hopefully bringing in more trade.
One of the very first Big Local North Cleethorpes events was a Beach Event and Sports Day and Music on the Beach event at the end of North Promenade. Read the story here.
When Moon on the Water opened on North Promenade this changed the opportunities to draw people along North Prom and Big Local was supportive of MOTW and events there throughout its life. Read more about MOTW here.
When Festivals have been in Cleethorpes, Big Local North Cleethorpes has taken the opportunity to sponsor or encourage these events to extend their reach down along North Promenade rather than just focusing on the main Promenade. So the Birdhouse Festival was extended to North Promenade (read more here) and during Festival of the Sky in 2019 Big Local sponsored the Beats Bus (from Hull) to visit North Promenade too.
During the Urban Arts Reclaim Festival 2022, Big Local North Cleethorpes sponsored the event to include a North Promenade Fringe Festival which resulted in a live painting event at Punchbowl Pub alley – the urban art from which is still in place. Read about Urban Arts 2022 here.
In 2019 Big Local North Cleethorpes designed, printed and distributed a leaflet promoting the various businesses along North Promenade. A previous leaflet via the tourist office was very out of date, so Big Local funded a new leaflet and a medium scale print run to allow visitors to learn more about what they could find along North Promenade. Quite a few copies of the leaflet were distributed during a couple of Armed Forces Days, so hopefully some additional footfalll was encouraged as a result. Unfortunately, businesses change so our own leaflet is now out of date too, so a design of a follow up leaflet will probably fall to the businesses themselves now.

Since 2018 Big Local North Cleethorpes has sponsored planters along North Promenade (and beyond) to help cheer up the promenade itself. The original scheme was done jointly with the businesses – they paid for 50% and Big Local matched the rest. This resulted in 26 bedding plant planters. This was an effective joint effort with the North Promenade businesses. Since that original exercise, the planters are now 8 palm tree planters and these are all focused around North Promenade and have returned every year since 2020.

Luckily North Promenade has also had some regeneration as a result of local Council regeneration initiatives and plans, but Big Local North Cleethorpes has been able to support the area throughout our programme with this variety of initiatives.
