Probably the most visible part of Big Local North Cleethorpes is the buildings and places it has renovated or been involved with
When? 2014-2024
Some buildings have been very closely developed or connected to Big Local North Cleethorpes during the programme.
Sidney Sussex Pavilion
The historic Pavilion sits in the Sidney Sussex Recreation Ground. In 2014-15 Big Local North Cleethorpes led on a refurbishment of the building to bring it back into use. This was the very first major project for the newly formed Big Local North Cleethorpes and was a major investment both in terms of money, volunteering, partnership and general effort. In 2015 the building came back into use for the community.
In 2023 there was another change at the Pavilion and it is now run by local ground We Are Fish, still as a community building serving residents.

82 Grimsby Road – the Community Hub
Big Local North Cleethorpes wanted to create a community hub to serve the area (and to provide us with our own space). There was an attempt to develop a new build on Sidney Park, but ultimately it was decided to purchase and develop our own hub.
In 2018 82 Grimsby Road was purchased and redeveloped with a lot of volunteer time. The building opened in 2019 and remains as a community hub to this day.
It’s developed further (see the Red Shed below) and has an outdoor space too. It’s home to a range of social groups, has office space and meeting rooms and in 2025 remains open to the public as our legacy community hub.

The Red Shed at 82 Grimsby Road
Soon after the community hub was ready, we utilised the wasted space in the rear yard to build a hands-on activity space ‘shed’. Known as the ‘Red Shed’ it has slowly developed and is now home to many groups every week making use of the new facilities.
Later the shed was christened ‘Brocklebank Hall’ in memory of our friend and committee member Ian Brocklebank who passed away in 2020 but had been a keen champion for our community space.

Moon on the Water
Moon on the Water (MOTW) was a community arts and music venue/hub on North Promenade in Cleethorpes. Where North Cleethorpes lacked a community arts venue, MOTW appeared to fill that gap around 2016. It hosted music and arts events; meetings; conferences and more. It had a vegan cafe and made the most of its location on North Promenade by the beach to support local events.
Big Local North Cleethorpes made some investments into MOTW upfront to get it started (it ran as an independent social enterprise). Further investments into lighting, music mixing desk and cash registers followed.
Unfortunately closure due to Covid restrictions meant that MOTW struggled to adjust, and cashflow impacts meant that MOTW shut down in 2020.

Cleethorpes Railway Station
A major refurbishment project took an old, empty building on Cleethorpes Railway Station and converted it back into use – as a space for the Cycle Hub to occupy. Big Local North Cleethorpes was involved with the project to support the Cycle Hub and we invested £20k into the project which resulted in an access ramp to the station concourse from North Promenade being built.
Eventually Cycle Hub decided to leave the building and Big Local North Cleethorpes then supported local groups We Are Fish and artist Lynsey Powles to take over the then empty building and repurpose it once again. What was originally the old Station Masters and ticket office is now open as a community youth arts hub known as the TickART Office.
