A number of local groups and organisations have received direct financial support over the years to help them deliver projects locally to residents
There are many local groups, organisations and initiatives that directly support the residents and community of North Cleethorpes. Sometimes Big Local North Cleethorpes has simply supported these groups financially to help them continue their work or make a greater impact.
Some investments have been donations or we’ve approached groups to support the work we see being done. Earlier in the Big Local programme we actively encouraged groups to apply to the committee for funding and to ‘pitch’ their case. At other times we’ve developed projects jointly.
During the programme we also had a small discretionary pot of money to help get groups setup or tackle early issues.
In all cases organisations had to demonstrate how they worked in the North Cleethorpes footprint and how they reached and worked with local residents.
Here’s a selection of organisations and the way they have been supported. Some projects are large enough to have their own story page too. Other projects can be found under thematic listings too.
Moon on the Water (MOTW)
Community Arts venue on North Promenade. Various small grants to help the venue get up and running. Business support and training. Made use of the building for events. Further rounds of funding for point of sale terminal, better lighting and a sound deck.
The venue closed as a casualty of covid, but our small investments over the years helped the business to support the community whilst it was active.

North Promenade Traders
We worked with the Traders along North Promenade on a variety of approaches to helping get trade for their businesses.
We match funded their investments to put Planters along North Promenade.
We designed and printed a promotional leaflet for the traders.
We’ve extended a variety of projects along North Promenade (such as the Birdhouse Festival) including the Reclaim Urban Arts Festival in 2022 which directly supported the Punchbowl pub with some urban art.

The Royal Naval Association
The Royal Naval Association building in Cleethorpes supports veterans and families with many coming from the North Cleethorpes area. The building was in disrepair so Big Local helped them to get a grant and then added our own funding to help ensure the building could be renovated and made available once again to their community. Read the story here.

CARE (Christian Action Resource Enterprise)
CARE relied on their aging van to collect and transport goods to their local charity shop and to the local families that they would support with furniture and other items. Big Local North Cleethorpes helped invest £10000 to help CARE replace their van to lower their long-term costs and help with their sustainability and the ability to keep serving the community.

St Peter’s Church community centre
St Peter’s Church runs a variety of community offers from their centre. Over the years Big Local North Cleethorpes team have worked with the team at the Church to investigate funding bids, provide training for their team or to groups and supported groups in the centre with small amounts of funding to help with their various initiatives.
Womens Aid
Funded a trainer and a training programme to support the work of Women’s Aid in getting women back into work.

Cleethorpes Cycle Hub
Cycle Hub Lincs CIC was looking to move to Cleethorpes Railway Station to complement their Grimsby Cycle Hub in a new location. The building they moved into was part of a major £500k refurbishment and Big Local North Cleethorpes contributed £20k to ensure that an access ramp was included to the station concourse as part of the redevelopment for the benefit of users of the Cycle Hub

Hammond House Productions
Big Local North Cleethorpes and VANEL have had a long term working relationship with Hammond House. We’ve commissioned them to provide a variety of film content.
We’ve supported Hammond House to create CleeTV which in turn has helped our community. Big Local also supported Book the Band and the CleeTV investment helped Hammond House to expand to produce the Heritage channel.

We Are Fish
Big Local provided a small ‘getting started’ grant as this existing group started working on more and more projects in North Cleethorpes. They’ve also now taken over the Pavilion building on Sussex Rec; Pitstop in the Park in Sidney Park; the TickART office at the Station; and they’ve run Community Allotments and a Green Influencers group. Big Local North Cleethorpes have supported We Are Fish with all of these ventures and We Are Fish continues to be a huge influence in the North Cleethorpes area providing a legacy for some of the projects and buildings that Big Local North Cleethorpes has been so keen to support.

Trinity Sounds
Hangout funded a series of music enrichment sessions (covering DJ skills) for a number of young people from families in North Cleethorpes.
Corpus Christi Church
Received a donation of £300 during 2023 to help with travel costs for some of their more elderly and vulnerable parishioners to help them make it across to social meetings at the church.
Ghetto Park
An East Marsh based business that provides sports and diversionary activities to young people. A lot of these young people come from the North Cleethorpes area, so a number of small grants have been provided by Big Local and The Hangout to enable children from North Cleethorpes to benefit from their offer.

Other organisations have benefitted from Big Local too. Some like Creative Start CIC or Lyns Powles have been commissioned to produce art. Some like Penny Smith School of Dance have received small grants. Other churches and businesses might have been hired or worked with on various projects.
So, whilst the primary focus for Big Local North Cleethorpes has been residents rather than businesses, our approach to working with local businesses and organisations has ensured they continue to serve our local community and consequently the residents.
