A long-term theme for Big Local North Cleethorpes has been to engage and involve the local community through artistic pursuits
This theme started by embracing arts and music but has changed over the years to involved culture, heritage and leisure too. The intention is that by delivering arts, leisure, culture and heritage events and activities, members of the North Cleethorpes community can engage with their own local area differently or get involved in activities very differently.
You’ll find information about each of these projects across the next few pages. Here’s an index to them:
Family Fun Day
at Sidney Park way back in June 2013 as part of our very first community consultation and Planning for Real exercise. A great fun event for the whole community. Read about the day here.

Reclaim Urban Arts Festival
with North Cleethorpes Fringe events in 2022 and 2023
CleeTV
Clee TV is and online film channel we created with partners to showcase North Cleethorpes and interesting topics for our community
Part of the success of this was that it was expanded by extra funding by Hammond House Productions to evolve into
The Culture/Heritage channel

Commissioned Artwork
As part of our ongoing support for the arts, Big Local North Cleethorpes has funded or commissioned a range of new art for the area.

Some specific artwork includes
A Mural at Cleethorpes Fire Station

And everything appears on our
Art Trail
which you can find out more about here
Book the Band
was an initiative started in response to Covid to help promote musicians from Cleethorpes to get gigs/work. It was a great success and is running to this day.
Find out about Book the band and the success of some of the groups here.
A couple of Heritage funded projects have been delivered over the years.
Cleethorpes Community Cops
One was about community policing in Cleethorpes just as the old Police station was being closed. Read about Cleethorpes Cops here.
A Green Route for Cleethorpes
And the other was about the heritage of the parks and green spaces in Cleerthorpes. But following Covid this was also a way to engage local people with their environment and get them out and about by providing a walking route. Follow the Green Route here
Holiday Home
As part of our Leisure offering Big Local North Cleethorpes purchased a holiday home at Thorpe Park in Cleethorpes and for a few years this gave local people a chance to have a holiday locally that might have otherwise been unaffordable. The holiday home was sold after a few years, but local people had benefitted whilst it was in place.
Arts Workshops for young people
have been a regular feature of our funding rounds. Various sets of workshops have been held in our Red Shed, at local venues, and through local artists such as Lyns Powles. Dozens of local young people have been supported through arts workshops as a result.
Read more about art workshops here
And finally…
Moon on the Water
was for a few years a key arts, music and entertainment venue in North Cleethorpes which was run as a social enterprise but which had the benefit of support, encouragement and funding via Big Local. Closed during covid but it provided great service to the community whilst it was in place.
Read the Moon on the Water story here
Big Local have also been supportive of the
TickART office
Which took over the refurbished building on Cleethorpes Railway station and repurposed it as a youth community arts venue for Cleerthorpes. The building refurbishment was initially supported by Big Local and we’ve been supportive since TickART office came into being.
